The Devil's Work by Mark Edwards

Synopsis:
A gripping psychological thriller from the bestselling author of Follow You Home and The Magpies.

It was the job she had dreamed of since childhood. But on her very first day, when an unnerving encounter drags up memories Sophie Greenwood would rather forget, she wonders if she has made a mistake. A fatal mistake.

What is her ambitious young assistant really up to? And what exactly happened to Sophie’s predecessor? When her husband and daughter are pulled into the nightmare, Sophie is forced to confront the darkest secrets she has carried for years.

As her life begins to fall apart at work and at home, Sophie must race to uncover the truth about her new job…before it kills her.

My Review:

5 *****

I think this is the first book from this author that I've actually guess the 'who did it?' thing he has going on with every book. I was teetering on the edge between two people after about 60%. This though, didn't dampen my spirit for the amazing book it was at completion.

It's gripping, it's strange and Oh do invigorating. I loved the characters and each of their roles, I loved the deviance of the story once all was revealed and found it all to be the work of a genius.

I admit though, when I got to halfway and stopped reading for the night I had a nightmare about what could happen... that has never happened before when reading and I applaud the author for doing that. (even though when I awoke, I was positively terrified!)

This author will forever surprise me, keep my on the edge and turn my brain into a pile of mush. I love this book and knows others will to.
