Excerpt 1:

Uvbi’s body shuddered, until recognition slowly drizzled into her soul. Indescribable joy drenched her cold bones, when her heart put a name to the voice.
It was the sharp, stern voice which plagued her since he rescued her from the bush.
Even then, she proceeded with caution. One foot in front of the other, she found her way to the doorway shielded by palm fronds.
What if Nagudia wasn’t alone?
‘Uvbi, it is me, Nagudia. I bring you good news.’
His words rang in her ears.
Shocked out of her wits, warmth mingled with relief. Her heart gyrated with joy. But good sense stamped down the flood of elation.
‘Have you come to send me back?’
The men in Igodomigodo worked together. She trusted no one.
‘I do no such thing. I’m a man of peace.’
She didn’t wait to hear more. Uvbi rushed out of her hiding place, and brushed the many discomforts, and worries of the past ten sunsets behind. Without restraint, she flung herself into his strong arms.
Oh, her heaving chest left him breathing too fast now, and again. Not to mention her generous hips and legs, that could turn a man's good heart into a sinful cave.

EXCERPT 2

Uvbi sighed in harmony with the rustling leaves.
Nagudia smelled of rain and freshly cut grass.
Hot air blasted through his skin straight into her body. A wild tremor passed from her head to her feet. Uvbi pressed her wet body into his, and he held her for a long time.
He pressed his cheeks against her hair and inhaled deeply. When his calloused palms stilled the movement on her back, she lifted her head.
‘I have endured untold isolation in this solitary forest. My eyes have seen life, and death. I only seek human warmth and comfort.’
His eyes stayed hooded but his arms tightened around her waist. For the first time since their encounter, they stared at each other, neither uttered a word.
Time stood still.
His heart beat grew louder, and faster.
Her heart leaped.
The trees whistled and cheered.
In the ensuing silence, her body drew strength from his solid chest wall, and tense belly. With her heart hammering to the unspoken words in his eyes, Uvbi stepped out of reach.
‘What brings you here? How did you find me?’

Excerpt 3
‘My name is Uvbi,’ she corrected.
‘After scaring me to death in the bush, did you have to bring me back to my father's house? Let not your good deed be evil spoken of,’ she rebuked, her chin jutting out with hands akimbo.
Nagudia folded his arms across his chest and stared at her.
‘Are you admonishing me for saving your life? I see you do not consider your life of great value,’ he reprimanded. ‘But your parents do.’
With one hand on the dagger slung at his waist, Nagudia pinned her with his hard stare.
Waves after shock waves reverberated across her body. His presence, the angry posture, his dismissive words, and sharp stare raked her bare shoulders and hips.
The breeze from the east blew hot air through her legs, setting her body on edge. Uvbi stepped back, glared at him and warned.
‘I will hold you responsible if my father carries out his threat,’ adding, ‘throughout my life, I have never seen a man so wise in his own eyes!’
His jaw worked up and down and his palm tightened on his weapon.
‘What threat?’ Nagudia asked, alarm in his eyes, but she slipped into her father's compound without a backward stare.
